Methodology

An edition fixes the answers, candidate membership and source snapshot. A seed fixes the randomised order only. Two people opening the same link get the same teams, the same order and the same candidate layout.

Daily Team Rep challenges roll over at 08:00 UTC. A corrected edition is published as a new version; completed results stay tied to the snapshot they were played on.

One point per correct first choice, maximum 10. Longest run of consecutive correct answers is shown as a secondary streak. The official alternate never appears as a decoy, so there is exactly one defensible answer per round. Time is never scored.

Only teams the union currently lists a rep for are eligible for a round, and every decoy is a player currently on that same roster.

Score = max(0, round(1000 x correct seats / total seats) - 25 x hints used)

The seat count is whatever the union currently publishes rather than a fixed number, so it changes when the committee changes. The three named offices need the right player in the right office. The Vice Presidents are scored as an order-independent set, because those seats share one public title. A clean sweep with no hints is 1,000; a clean sweep using all three hints is 925.

Each player is a franchise peak card built from their best contiguous window with that franchise, era-adjusted for pace and role, with a confidence label where the historical data is thin.

The forecast weighs player value by minute share, adds primary- and second-unit fit (spacing, creation, rim protection, redundancy), subtracts bench drop-off and a fatigue penalty above roughly 34 minutes per game, then compares the result against an all-time-franchise opponent baseline rather than an average current team. The output is a deterministic game score with an inspectable explanation, not a claim about what would literally happen.

Bubble Season Edition: your build plays the 2019-20 season. The per-game win probability is projected over 72 games - the league-wide average that year before the Orlando restart - then dropped into the real 2019-20 standings in place of that franchise's actual team. Seeds, the eight-team playoff cut, the play-in cushion and the "closest comparable" line all come from those published records, so the same build always lands on the same seed.

Minute rules: ten rotation spots split exactly 240 minutes per game - a five-man starting unit locked to one PG, SG, SF, PF and C, plus five position-flexible bench spots - with a 5 MPG floor and a 44 MPG cap on any single player.

Each franchise pool carries ten all-time players at every position.

Text and stats only. The games use player and team names plus mathematical performance data - career and season statistics, minutes, accolades, draft years and dates.

No real logos. No official or trademarked NBA or team logos, wordmarks or uniform art is used. Team names appear descriptively only.

No photography or likenesses. No copyrighted player photography is displayed, and there are no avatars, 3D models, illustrations or video clips imitating a player's visual likeness. Players appear as a name with an initials marker, including in shared result images.

Art strategy: objects only. Site artwork is original illustration of inanimate subjects - court diagrams, empty locker rooms, benches, boardrooms, equipment. It contains no player figures or silhouettes, no uniforms, no team marks and no animated or rendered depictions of any person.

Enforced automatically. A media-policy check scans the source, every public page and the share-image renderer for photography, logo or likeness media, and fails the build-time check if any appears. New imagery has to be reviewed and listed before it can ship.

Two upstream sources, and nothing else: the NBPA leadership directory for union roles, and Basketball Reference for statistics, minutes, accolades, draft history, hint content and the 2019-20 standings. Contract figures behind the era-normalized cap % are cross-checked against Spotrac.

• Player reps, alternates and Executive Committee offices: NBPA official leadership directory. The single source of record for Who's the Rep? answers and every Committee seat. No secondary outlet is used to fill gaps - if the directory lists no rep for a team, that team does not appear. Snapshot verified 31 July 2026.
• Career and season statistics, minutes, positions: Basketball Reference. Per-game and career averages, games played, minutes per game, positions listed, and the two-season peak windows and minutes baselines used for era pricing and the injury tax in Rotation Architect.
• Committee hints: Basketball Reference player pages. All three hint kinds are read off a player's Basketball Reference summary page: the nickname listed there, the position plus career averages, and the NBA timeline (draft year and team, seasons, All-Star and award lines).
• Awards, honors and draft history: Basketball Reference awards and draft pages. MVP, Finals MVP, All-Star, All-NBA, All-Defense and Hall of Fame lines, plus draft year, round and pick.
• 2019-20 bubble season standings: Basketball Reference 2019-20 season page. Final regular-season records, conference order, the eight-team playoff cut and the play-in cushion your build is slotted into.
• Contract values behind era-normalized cap %: Basketball Reference and Spotrac contract histories. Historical salary figures for a player's peak window, expressed as a share of that season's league salary cap so 1987 and 2019 deals compare on one scale.

Neither source endorses or is affiliated with this project. Every figure is used factually, for commentary, and linked so you can verify it at the source.

The union's leadership directory is the single source of record for reps, alternates and committee offices. Where it lists no rep for a team, that team simply does not appear; no secondary outlet is used to fill the gap. Roster affiliations are checked against current rosters so a listed rep who has changed teams is held back until the directory catches up.

Spot a mistake? Include the game, edition code and round when you report it and the edition can be withdrawn or superseded with an audit record.
